Review of newly opened Cosy Club in Exeter...
Throughout my
first year at uni in Cardiff I was itching to visit the new and highly talked
about restaurant in town, Cosy Club. Streams of friends raved about the amazing
range of quirky dishes and the cocktails served from teapots. As a bit of a foodie
I was dying to go and I was overjoyed to hear when I came home for the summer
that a brand new Cosy Club had opened in my home town of Exeter.
It doesn't look like much from the oustide, however when I
entered the converted hospital, I immediately loved the decor. Mismatched old paintings and vintage furniture
gives the dining hall an original feel, which made the restaurant really unique
and homely. The place was buzzing with happy customers of all ages, which added
the warming ambiance.
The menu I
had seen months before in Cardiff looked really exciting and a little different
than your everyday chain restaurant, so I was a disheartened when I opened the
menu and nothing jumped out at me. The dishes on offer seemed like run of the
mill pub grub, with fish & chips and macaroni cheese not really arousing my
taste buds.

So I went for
the falafel & halloumi burger, as some what of a veggie burger connoisseur I
was hoping for big things, and I wasn't disappointed. The service was really
quick and had my meal within ten minutes; my pet hate is having to wait a long
time for food, so this was a big plus. The burger itself was great. The falafel
was generously spiced with cumin and coriander which complemented the
salty-ness of the halloumi perfectly. The plate was filled with a hearty bucket of well seasoned chips and a simply side salad.
All in all I would recommend Cosy Club to anyone wanting to try something a little different and wonder our of their chain restaurant comfort zone. The staff were polite, friendly and couldn't do enough for me, the food was surprising delicious and its generally just a little eccentric, but that's cool...right?
